Timelines vary with scope so much that any universal answer misleads. What can be explained is where the time goes.
Where the time goes
- Defining and designing. Deciding the flows and how they look. Skipping this moves the cost into rework.
- The back end. Accounts, data, sync and the interface the app talks to.
- The app itself. Screens, logic, offline behaviour, notifications.
- Testing. On several devices and operating system versions, including poor connections.
- Store submission and review. Apple reviews each submission; first-time apps can need more than one attempt, and each round costs days.
What lengthens it
- Scope that grows during the build.
- Late decisions or changing requirements.
- Dependence on third parties: payment approval, data from partners, legal text.
- Unusual features such as complex offline sync or hardware access.
What shortens it
- A small, clear first version.
- One person who decides.
- Content, accounts and legal documents ready before they are needed.
- Starting with one platform if the audience allows it.
Treat store review as part of the schedule, not an afterthought: plan a buffer for a rejection and a resubmission.
